I recently bought a Windows XP Home edition for my home PC. After installation, I realized that Microsoft hadn’t by defaulted updated the media player within. When I activated, the build said Windows Media Player 9.00.00.3354. If you have visited any of the tech sites, you know the current version of Windows Media Player is 11.
So, here is a guide on how to upgrade Windows Media Player, just the way I did.
- Power On your system.
- Once you have logged on, click on START button on the left side bottom. In there, select PROGRAMS and click on Windows Media Player.
- The old Windows Media Player will open up.
- In the navigation menu of the Media Player, click on HELP and select Check for Player Updates.
- A small window will pop up and connect to the Microsoft database. After a brief scan, it will provide you the size and time required for the update to complete.
- Click the NEXT button.
Note: Windows may prompt for validation of your Windows XP. If it does, follow the instruction to validate your copy.
- It will ask you to close Windows Media Player and any other explorer windows for a hassle free upgrade.
- Click NEXT. The upgrade process will begin. You can see the files downloading in real time.
- There is a second window that pops up, that actually downloads the update file. Do not cancel it.
- The size of the update is 24.60 MB.
- Once the file is downloaded, it will install automatically.
- Once completed, the window will show a message as below.
- Make sure to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
- That’s it.
